Circled in the Diary: IWD 2018!

International Women’s Day Festival 2018

To celebrate International Women’s Day on the 8th of March 2018, Saddlegoose Comedy teamed up with Protestival, Rhyme + Reason Poetry and Bath College in putting on a wonderful little arts festival at The Bath Brew House in aid of The Circle, an international women’s empowerment charity founded by Annie Lennox. Saddlegoose ran the comedy section upstairs in the atmospheric (and packed out!) Tank Room, showcasing a selection of brilliant local acts, some impressive up-and-coming stars of standup from further afield, and ending the night on the joy-filled high of the hilarious and extraordinarily talented headliner Katie Pritchard.

As highlighted by events like this, there is no reason why people putting on comedy shows shouldn’t strive for more all-female or at the very least consciously inclusive lineups for every comedy night they run. While there will likely always be a great demand for spots from white, male, twenty-something acts due to sheer volume of local performers who fall under that category, there should always be an attempt to provide and reach out as a platform for more diverse comedic voices – not least because it makes for a far stronger, more varied night of fun!

Here are some snaps from the night…
